Ozone therapy
Ozone is an allotropic form of oxygen. It has its own very characteristic smell and is a stronger oxidising agent than oxygen. Ozone therefore oxidises numerous substances that are neutral towards oxygen under normal circumstances. The use of ozone in the treatment of numerous conditions is based on the unique range of effects of this oxidising agent.
In therapeutic doses, ozone acts as an immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal, cytostatic, analgesic and anti-stress agent.
Ozone therapy is used in almost all fields of medicine: in emergency and septic surgery, general and infection therapy, gynaecology, urology, dermatology, hepatology, gastroenterology, cosmetology and, of course, dentistry.
Ozone was first tested as an antiseptic as early as 1915, during the First World War.
Ozone therapy makes the seemingly impossible possible in dentistry: doing without the drill. This is of course only possible if the patient sees the dentist regularly, so that caries can be diagnosed at an early stage. Caries treatment using ozone therapy was developed in Germany – which should surprise no one. Most procedures in the field of ozone therapy are linked to Germany in one way or another: the world’s first institute for oxygen therapy was founded here, as were the world’s first blood-oxygen treatment and the first successful use of oxygen in surgery.
Besides caries treatment, ozone therapy is used in the following cases:

- Treatment of oral thrush, herpetic stomatitis and other forms of stomatitis

Bruxism
Bruxism is the grinding or clenching of teeth. Many people suffer from this syndrome. Bruxism is usually harmless, but severe bruxism wears the teeth down and can cause facial and headache pain. While the syndrome can be kept under control during the day, it is beyond control during sleep. Wear on the teeth is prevented with a polymer splint. Occasionally bruxism can be treated with botox injections – in cosmetology botox is known as an anti-wrinkle agent.
