Professional whitening – in-office or at home: whiter teeth, fast and safe.
Over the years the colour of your teeth changes – and not for the better. Tea, coffee, alcoholic drinks, medication, cosmetics and various dental conditions leave deep traces in the colour of the teeth. They become darker and more yellow.
The need for professional tooth whitening (bleaching) becomes more pressing over the years. Two methods of professional whitening are available: in-office bleaching (carried out at the dental practice) and home bleaching (carried out at home). We use both methods — which one suits you is something we clarify during a consultation at our Cologne practice.
In-office bleaching achieves excellent results within a very short time. The treatment takes about an hour.
A special 38 % hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the teeth. The whitening is achieved by active oxygen being released at the surface of the tooth enamel.
Using a UV lamp intensifies this effect. Afterwards the teeth are fluoridated to strengthen the enamel. For home bleaching our specialists produce a plastic tray based on an impression of your teeth. At home the patient fills it with a bleaching gel and wears the tray for a certain time, a few hours a day.
Home bleaching is supervised by the dentist.

What whitening does — and what it does not
Only natural tooth enamel is lightened. Fillings, crowns, bridges and veneers do not change colour — if such work is in the visible area, we plan the bleaching and any replacement together.
Before every whitening we examine your teeth and gums and clean them professionally. On healthy, clean teeth the gel works more evenly, and leaking fillings or untreated caries show up beforehand rather than afterwards.

Which method suits you?
We decide that together after the examination: in-office bleaching if it needs to be quick, home bleaching if you prefer to control the process yourself over a few days. The two can also be combined.
